An unreliable heart

Sorry to say, I am back home again 😢. What?? Why??

Well, that was a lot of travel for very little return. I arrived in Whitehorse, YT with my bike and gear ready to head south. Gorgeous weather, ready to roll. With the help of Jason our bike mechanic I assembled my bike and decided to take it out for a ride following our planned first day route.

Lately I have been having problems with an arrhythmia. It comes and goes and my cardiologist said it wouldn’t hurt me to ride. What I failed to take into account was how it would feel to cycle with my heart fluttering and my cardiac output significantly diminished. That first trial run trip with repeated 8-9% climbs demonstrated to me that it was not fun! My heart flipped into the abnormal rhythm and stayed there for the next couple of days. So with a heavy heart (not to mention fluttering) I decided to travel back home after a couple of days sightseeing in Whitehorse.

I’m headed off to a specialist next Monday and if I can figure something out, may try to rejoin the group in Jasper Alberta. In the meantime, I’m riding around home where Jim can rescue me if need be. Will let you know if my 💔 lets me go.

Life happens…

  1. So sorry that you are having difficulty, and hope you are getting the care you need to safely get this resolved. Smart move on your part to withdraw, and sure it was a tough decision, but sounds like it was definitely the right one. Keep me posted, and I am hopeful that there is a good outcome.

  2. Bummer, Barb! Maybe beta blockers? But they can make you feel tired too. I hope they come up with a fix that allows you to join the tour again. Would they allow you an electric bike? ;). (Love mine!). I’m guessing the pups are happy to have you back tho. Hang in there and hugs,
