Heading towards home

Civilization

We have gradually been moving back into civilization and are at a coffee shop in Jasper, Alberta this morning. It’s been a bit difficult to adapt to the crush of people in this vacation wonderland. It is spectacularly beautiful but too busy really to truly enjoy.

We decided to travel back home this way to avoid the fires and smoke in South Central British Columbia. We have been so fortunate to avoid almost all of the smoke that blankets BC on our journey. And we have continued to have great weather and campsite karma along the way.

I was cycling along the road the other day and a flash of red in the stream along the road caught my eye. There were salmon in the final stages of spawning. So incredible! We were thousands of kilometers inland and they had traveled all the way from the Pacific Ocean. They had turned the deep red of spawning salmon and were clearly close to death. After they spawn, they die so their bodies can provide nutrients to the hatchlings. Amazing to watch.

A long way from the Pacific!!

We’ve been camping off the grid for days and enjoying the beauty of this area. Star is walking better and seems to have rejuvenated once again.

Now, like the salmon, we are making our way home…not to die hopefully!!

Thanks as always for joining us!
