After the hullabaloo of packing and preparing for our absence, we hit the road yesterday. Mother Nature decided to smile on us and we have had glorious weather: cloudless skies, crisp mornings, warm afternoons, little wind. It has been a delightful couple of days so far. It has almost been possible to forget about all the strife on the world stage and instead savor the pleasures of the moment.

The ride yesterday took us into Idaho by way of the Snake River

We camped near the river in Hell’s Gate State Park and woke to Jim’s birthday. I would imagine that not too many men his age think that a big bike ride is a great way to celebrate but for Jim it was an excellent excuse for pancakes, scrambled eggs, coffee and a bike trunk full of snacks! Not that Jim ever needs a reason to eat like that. ( I won’t even mention the two pints of Hagen Daas ice cream at the end of the ride. No freezer storage in the van! Too bad…have to eat all of it π).

We’re heading up towards Lolo Pass tomorrow leaving behind the wheat fields of the Palouse and the friendly pasture ornaments ( otherwise known has horses) that have decorated our route.
Better get some sleep. Another big day tomorrow. Sweet dreams to all and to all a good night.

Tell Jim happy belated birthday!!
