The Truck 🚚

Hooray! We made it through the border with all of our documentation…whew. Actually the Canadian border agent was very pleasant and usually works at the border station just north of Spokane so was very familiar with Washington. Small world.

It was a very rainy day so we stopped just after the crossing at Buckshot Betty’s for dinner. The atmosphere was very backwoods and Betty clearly prefers the locals 😏.

Real food

Jim had a pork cutlet, mashed potatoes and gravy, and two pieces of apple pie (he needed some healthy fruit in his diet 🍎).

“Where are the green vegetables?”

We decided to stop at a nearby provincial campground. It was completely empty and we were enjoying our solitude when lo and behold up drives another Truck!

Turns out, our neighbor was not an Earthroamer but a Grizzly. Max and his wife (sorry, I didn’t catch her name) are taking a year or two off work to travel. They are headed to Patagonia eventually. We had fun talking about our rigs. Theirs is 15 years old and has already traveled around Argentina with a prior owner. Like us, they find that their rig is a magnet for attention 😎. Nice that people enjoy it but hanging out with a Rockstar truck gets a bit old!

I’ve had some requests for some more introduction to the Truck so for those of you who have already heard about it ad nauseum, please forgive me.

Here are just a few pics from the interior…real life in the rig.

Cooking French toast for breakfast. The infamous Keurig coffee maker just above the stove ( yes, still broken 😒)

Maybe more later. Suffice it to say that our accommodations have been very comfortable, the rig is quite easy to drive and handles the bad roads without breaking a sweat. Power management has been fairly straight- forward and the water and diesel tanks have had marvelous capacities. There have been a few issues to figure out but we are still in the learning phase with our first major journey.. We like that it is quite stealth by the side of the road when we are hanging out waiting on the cyclist or camping for the night.

Support Truck

We’ve been traveling down the Alaska Highway. We’ve had some sunny days with relative warmth so the riding has been good.

Saw one Grizzly on the verge of the road but luckily we were both in the Truck at that point. With minimal traffic, and lots of signs of bears, I find that I am continually scanning the roadsides ahead lest I startle a bear working at putting on fat for the winter! Good reminder to keep the bear spray at hand!

We’re in Whitehorse, Yukon for the day taking care of business and head out in the morning.

Thanks as always for keeping us company!

  1. Barb, I’m just tuning in right now. What a fabulous trip! And I love that truck — so elegant and it almost looks armored! Now I’ll go back and read the other entries. Thanks again for writing about your travels.

    1. Hey Liz! For some reason, we’re far more aware of checking that the safety cap is in place this time πŸ€”!!
And that the spray nozzle is pointed away when we have the cans on the back of our bikes πŸš΅β€β™‚οΈπŸ»
