Our route takes us across the Denali Highway, a seasonal 135 mile dirt road. It is primarily above treeline and so provides amazing views, especially of the Alaska range. We would have loved to cycle the whole way but our time constraints prevented it. We did take turns cycling for a bit and it was awesome.

As you can see, we finally had a sunny day and so the views were particularly splendid. Regrettably it is caribou hunting season so there was more traffic than normal but that’s still not much.

We found an amazing spot to boondock (camp) and had a view table for dinner.

The second day on the Highway was less glorious weather but it was still beautiful. We had a great view of the Gulkana Glacier.

We saw bald eagles perched distainfully by the road but little other wildlife, likely due to the abundance of hunters.

Tonight we will camp next to Wrangell National Park and on to the border tomorrow. Hopefully we will be able to slow our pace and meander more once we no longer have the border crossing to worry about.
