Can history repeat itself? Did we not go on a cycling trip with spectacular scenery and rainy, cold weather last summer? Does Mother Nature think this is funny!!

We are tough old birds but really, we would rather not prove that once again. Day one it rained so hard that my Garmin bike computer starting saying I was going up when I was going down, moving when I was stopped, and then just gave up and died. I finally took the hint and we drove the rest of the way to Lewiston.
There we stopped at a lovely park and tried to dry out. The next few days were marginally better weather-wise but at least good enough to ride.

Jim did most of the climbing into the Nez Perce reservation.ย We followed the Lewis and Clark trail and have a renewed appreciation of the challenges of that expedition and the Native peoples of the region
Highway 12, the Lewis and Clark Highway snakes along the rushing Lochsa River. With all the recent rain, the many rapids were wild and awe-inspiring.

The route climbs over Lolo Pass (elevation 5235 ft) and passes into Montana. After a sweet descent on the newly repaved road, we made it to Lolo, Montana where we turned south. Finally we saw sunshine and blue skies as well as snow-capped mountains.

For our European friends with whom we traveled last summer, Jim felt that we should add a few photos to reinforce your concepts about the American love of guns ๐.
We are camped along a rushing river and taking a day to do laundry, grocery shop, and walk with the dogs. We have been quite surprised at how busy the van driver/support person stays during the day. We have new found respect for our TDA trip leaders as we work at breaking down camp, tending the bike rider, making food and caring for the dogs. We have also been out of cell phone and Wifi service most of the time. Heading south and east thru Montana Big Hole country tomorrow no doubt take us out of range again. So ta-ta for now. See you again when we are back in range. Thanks for following along!

Thanks for the gun shots (so to speak!!) – fingers crossed the weather improves for you xx

Great story line Barb. Almost makes me feel like we are there with you (although I can’t smell the wet dogs!). Jealous too. The last month of quarantine and this bad leg, I’m going totally stir crazy.

It is gorgeous out here…hopefully will see more sun and no more scissors! Really, who could miss seeing a scissors and hit it just right with the rear wheel!? That’s talent!

This sounds so fun. I hope you’re having a great trip!! I’m inspired to update my own blog, which has been in hibernation for far too long! Do Jack and Star get to go running while one person is biking?
