Bad luck and good luck

So, I took off on first riding shift this morning and was about 10 miles down the road when BLAM!, my rear rore locks up and CRASH! I’m down!🀣

Luckily, I have tough bones and other than a rapidly- growing lump on my hip and a few scrapes, I’m fine. I shake myself off and start to inspect my bike…rear hub…ok, chain…ok, spokes…ok. What’s going on? Then I notice my rim…

What’s sticking out of my rim??

I flip my bike over and voila!

Voila…a scissors!?!

How did I miss seeing a scissors on the road, miss it with my front tire and do this!!

Fortunately Jim was only about 10 miles away, we had cell phone service, we found a bike shop (probably the last one for hundreds of miles!) And my bike is being repaired right now. Disaster averted and some $$ and a few bruises later I am about to head down the road

Chad, the nicest bike mechanic ever!! Thanks!!

  1. Didn’t see a scissors on the road? Might want to check in with an ophthalmologist before you hit the open plains

  2. So sorry, Barb!
Perhaps the front wheel kicked the scissrs up and into the back one. It is a dangerous world on two wheels – perhaps an etrike is in your future….
We love your blog and your energy!
Just built a trellis for your Jasmine – first flowers today.

  3. Egads! I know you didn’t want to “cut” your trip short. I know terrible pun. But really falling rocks, a grizzly bear , a pair of scissors , misplaced bikes . Riding along with you could be dangerous. Your perseverance is amazing. May the wind be to your back the rest of the way with clean hwy shoulders!
