We have been working hard to get ready to head off on our big adventure. Jim has spent countless hours getting the property ready for the summer and hammering out the details for the trip: electronic adaptors, visas, current passports, boxes for the bikes, dog care, etc etc. I have been saying goodbye to patients and trying to make sure that everything is in place for their continued care. And of course, we have been training on our bikes trying to get these aging bodies in good enough shape to go the distance (the most challenging preparation of all!!!).

I have included a map of the journey. Amber, my amazing lead technician, pointed out today that we will have to eat an incredible amount of food to fuel this journey. Somehow, that is a hardship that I just can’t worry about. “Oh my, we have to eat another pastry!” “Jim, we really should have some more fabulous cheese and bread”. I hope that I am eliciting your pity 🙂

Margot sent me your blog. Looking forward to following your trip. Have you read Patrick Leigh Fermor’s “A Time of Gifts?” A wonderful description of his journey by foot from London to Istanbul in 1933 when he was 18. Enjoy your trip!
